What is there absolutely to see and do in Dordogne? Departing from our campsite in Douville, discover the most beautiful treasures of our local terroir. In addition to your visits to Bergerac and Périgueux, escape just a stone’s throw away or take a day trip:

  • Villamblard and the Château de Barrière (10 mins away): Only a few kilometers away, come and visit the restored remains of this 13th century medieval fortress located in the heart of the village
  • The Vieille Distillerie Clovis Reymond in Villamblard: Immerse yourself in 180 years of history and traditions! Come and discover the authentic copper stills and taste the local liqueurs made according to ancestral recipes.
  • L’Oustal du Périgord: Museum of arts and traditions, true immersion in the daily life of Périgord farmers.
  • Vergt, Capital of Strawberries (15 min): Foodies will love it! Vergt is the historic heart of strawberry production in the Dordogne. If you stay with us in spring, don’t miss the famous annual Strawberry Festival, an unmissable festive event with its giant pie, farmers’ markets and folkloric entertainment. The rest of the year, it is a charming central village to discover to soak up the sweetness of the Périgord life.
  • Le Moulin de la Veyssière in Neuvic (20 minutes): the last active walnut and hazelnut oil mill in the Isle valley. Discover artisanal and ancestral production during a guided (and free) tour.
  • The André Voulgre Museum in Mussidan (25 minutes): Housed in a beautiful mansion, this museum of Popular Arts and Traditions brings daily life, old trades and the history of Périgord of yesteryear to life. An exciting and nostalgic visit for the whole family.
  • The Rouzique paper mill in Couze-et-Saint-Front (30 min): Follow the guide and discover the secrets of artisanal rag paper manufacturing, in operation since the 15th century. You can participate in the workshop to create your own sheet of paper!
  • La Bastide de Lalinde (30 mins): First English bastide in Périgord, built on the banks of the Dordogne. Stroll along its canal, discover its medieval doors and enjoy its traditional market in a typically local atmosphere.
  • Issigeac (25 mins): A magnificent medieval town, famous throughout the region for its Sunday morning market (one of the most beautiful in Dordogne).
  • Gouffre de Proumeyssac (40 mins): Nicknamed the “Crystal Cathedral”, it is the largest developed cavity in Périgord. Let yourself be amazed by its walls decorated with a multitude of giant crystallizations, enhanced by a grandiose sound and light show. The most daring can even try the unique experience of going down in a basket!
  • National Museum of Prehistory (45 minutes), this museum is a must in the region, with its very realistic reconstructions of prehistoric men and extinct animals.
  • Lascaux IV – International Center for Cave Art in Montignac (1 hour): The absolute masterpiece of Prehistory. Immerse yourself in a full, ultra-realistic replica of the famous original cave. Thanks to cutting-edge digital equipment and interactive devices, the whole family will be able to admire the world-famous frescoes of our ancestors in exceptional conditions. An unmissable day trip!
  • Château de Castelnaud (1 hour): Proudly overlooking the Dordogne valley, this impressive medieval fortress is entirely dedicated to the art of war in the Middle Ages. Young and old will be fascinated by its collection of weapons, armor and its reproductions of life-size siege machines (trebuchets, catapults). In season, many costumed events and blacksmithing demonstrations are organized there!

Things to do in the Dordogne

  • Château de Tiregand (16km): Between escape game and investigation game about the famous gentleman burglar Arsène Lupin.
  • Château de Bridoire (27km): Nicknamed the “Château des jeux”, it is the ideal site for families to have fun with more than 80 indoor and outdoor games, as well as a natural and wild labyrinth.
  • Aquarium du Périgord Noir (37 km): An unmissable visit to do with the family to observe more than 6,000 fish. New for 2026, aligator fish.
  • Parc le Bournat (37 km): Enjoy a unique day in the heart of a reconstruction of a typical Périgord village from the 1900s.
  • Canoe descents: Escape during a stroll along our beautiful rivers, on the Dordogne or on the Vézère.
  • Vergtaventures (21km): Get your fill of sensations with more than 10 treetop courses for all levels, giant zip lines and play areas in the heart of the woods.
  • Bergerac Karting (21km): Drive on a large outdoor circuit, ideal for a karting session with family or friends.
  • Supervised hikes with the Randos de Nico (27km): Treat yourself to an outing full of sensations on a quad or all-terrain electric scooter.
  • Swimming and relaxing (16km): Sunny days are ideal for relaxing in the Dordogne, for example on the developed beaches of Lake Pombonne
  • Hiking: Explore the many trails starting from the campsite or nearby to discover the Périgord nature.

The most beautiful villages of the Dordogne

The Dordogne is a department where many listed villages amaze visitors.
Here is a small selection of the most interesting villages to visit:

  • La Roque-Gageac: an exceptionally well preserved medieval village.
  • Limeuil: if you like rivers and stone bridges.
  • Domme: this beautiful Dordogne village is home to the Domme cave, a must-see!
  • Belvès : Check out the Place des Armes, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
  • Monpazier: visit the bastide town of Monpazier and take time to stroll through the narrow streets.

There are also many towns to visit during your stay at camping Lestaubière in the Dordogne, such as Bergerac and Périgueux.
